Cupcake card and SAL update

I don't know if you have ever searched for cupcake cross stitch patterns, but if you have then you know how popular this subject is.  I had no idea how many designs were out there.  I wanted to stitch one for a birthday card and found so many charts I didn't know how to pick one.  The first one I tried just didn't work out.. way too much back-stitching to get the right effect and I gave up.  I finally settled on this French pastry-style cupcake by Veronique Enginger.  Some back-stitching, but just enough to enhance, not overwhelm. It came with two different suggested color palettes, and I used a combination of the two.  I liked them both, but I thought this version would be best for the birthday girl.   It's stitched over-two on Dames of the Needle 35-ct Peep's Lost Sheep linen.  I wanted a darker background to make the icing pop.

There are just as many cupcake stickers for sale as cupcake x-stitch patterns, so I picked a few and found that cute cupcake ribbon as well.  I think it all  makes a pretty cool birthday card.

Here is my October installment in the Joyful World SAL.  No changes to the suggested colors.  Just a cute little hedgehog and his snail BFF.   I might delay doing the November piece since I have the urge to knit a pair of fingerless gloves now that the weather has turned cooler.

  3. Cute finishes !! :) When I have more design choices for smaller projects, I end up spending same amount of time on shortlisting as I would on stitching.

  12. I say it again -- that cupcake is so pretty, too pretty to eat! Love how the card came out. Love the October piece too -- so cute! I've never knitted anything to do with hands or feet. For some reason the idea scares me. Sweaters, no problem. Stuff for hands and feet? Nope.

  14. I think that is one of the prettiest cupcakes I've ever seen, Annie! I love the combination of purple and blues so much--what a great card! And how cute is that hedgehog finish. I wish I could see a hedgehog in person...

Enjoy your knitting--the weather has turned suddenly cold here so your fingerless gloves would come in very handy!

  17. I love a cupcake in any form! Your linen choice was wonderful for your color palette.

The hedgehog is so cute! a great depiction of one too.

Fingerless mitts - I need a new pair too. Thinking of knitting a colorful scarf though. Cables are still hurting my hand so it will have to be something simpler.

  19. I love the purple and the blue on your little cupcake, very cute card design. That little snail on the Joyful World Sal is my favorite part. I think all of them so far have been cute, but keep telling myself not to start any new projects.
