January Carousel Horse

About a thousand years ago I stitched the January horse, a unicorn, from Donna Kooler's "Carousel Horses in Cross Stitch". I had originally planned it as a gift for a baby born in January, but I didn't complete it in time for that. So I decided to make it into a pillow for me. Bought all the supplies, and then let it sit until til today. We had a monster snowstorm here in DC. Started Friday morning and it's still snowing! In the last few minutes, it just started getting a bit heavier, but I think this is supposed to be the tail end. So in honor if this record-setting event (I'm really tired of breaking records with snow totals!), here's my finish. The first photo is before I inserted the pillow form... easier to get a good picture that way.

It's done on a pale blue Zweigart Aida. I suppose if I was stitching this today, I'd go for linen or evenweave. But my heart really still belongs to Aida I think.

Wow, that's a stunning finish-finish, Annie! I love the look of the carousel horses and would no doubt make Rowen idolize me if I ever actually stitched one. LOL!

I hope that snow melts soon and that the rest of your winter is more temperate!

So pretty, Annie--that looks like a very detailed piece with all of the backstitching it must have involved.

Hey, we ended up with 22" of snow, too--way more than they forecast. Still digging out and more snow is forecast for Tuesday. Oh brother!

It's gorgeous as a pillow! Congratulations on the finish. I hope you stay warm and cozy. When we have weather "events" here, we tend to lose electricity.

You did an amazing job on both the stitching and finishing! It looks beautiful as a pillow, and I wouldn't have changed the fabric. It looks perfect just the way it is!

Hi, Annie: Your carousel horse is lovely! I really like that design.

So sorry you're getting pounded with snow---again! My DB & SIL live in MD, so they are going through it, too.

I've seen this pattern but it really looks gorgeous stitched up. And it really says "January" with the snow and "Wind" doing their thing. Are we finished with winter yet?

WOW! That is really, really beautiful! I hope you're keeping warm and that you aren't one of the people that lost power with the big storm. I hear you're to get more on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Hunker down and keep warm!
