Princess Parade and Printer Cover

Today was a pretty good day. Sent off my latest Love Quilt square. Pressed another finish so it's totally done and I could take a photo. Plus I got my hair cut and colored, always a way to feel brand new.

The LQ Square is for Hailey G, who wanted bright colored princesses, especially orange and purple. I picked out the "Princess Parade" pattern from Country Cottage Needleworks. Of course, the design called for beautiful, muted, pastel hand-dyed floss. Hand-dyed doesn't work for LQ squares since the quilts need to be machine-washable. So I picked some brighter shades of regular DMC. The fabric in the photo may look like light blue, but it's really white. I made the clouds blue to compensate. I think it will work pretty well for the theme.

And I found a use for my "Sisters" Stitchery. My poor printer stays in a corner and doesn't get much use. Quite the dust catcher, so I decided to make a dust cover for it. I used this simple tutorial for an ottoman slip cover. No piecing of the fabric, just four 'darts' and a hem. Then I used Stitch Witchery to fuse the stitching to the top center and added a blanket stitch around the edges. Certainly not perfect, but definitely does the trick. And definitely an improvement over the old pillowcase that I had draped over it before. I understand the construction principles now and I think my next such cover will be better.

I'm sure little Hailey will love her princess square, Annie. That is so nice of you to stitch a square--something I should really look into.

I'll bet that is the first piece of stitching ever used as part of a printer cover--great idea! I need to stop using my printer so much for freebies and just learn to save them on my computer. Thanks for the link to the ottoman slip cover, too. I have one in my family room that is really showing its age!

Glad your hair cut and color was a success :)

Now these princesses really can bright up a day. For those who don't have a new haircut... ;-)
I just love the printer cover. Again I'm amazed about the beauty of the stitching! I think it's the areas with "filling" stitches that make it looking so much richer than line stitching alone would do.

Love those princesses and what a cool idea with the printer cover! I think that I need to make one of those because it always seems to be a dust catcher as it's not used that much. Great idea!

Hi Annie,
I've finally got a newer computer and am able to see allmy favorite blogs. Yours was first on the list to have a look at! I won't comment on everything; suffice to say I love all your work as always! I use one of my embroidered tabletops to cover my computer when I'm not using it. Sounds awful, but at least I can admire it every day instead of having it in a cupboard where I don't see it.

Thanks for your comments about my mug rugs and other work. Always nice to see you visiting :-)

Wow! Love your printer cover! I was thinking about making one for the school's printer and for the keyboards and monitors, but I have ten computers, besides I'm not sure I'll be in the same department next year...

The princess parade looks fantastic! You did a great job with changing the floss colors.
