Bird's Eye View Sling Bag

Last fall, I decided I needed a new cross-body sling bag and I stitched up Kathy Barrick's "Bird's Eye View".   This was really a fun stitch.. just the kind I like.  It's very colorful, no back-stitching, and no super-large areas of a single color.  All done in DMC on 36 count linen.  And then for some reason, the design just sat around and I never felt like making the bag.  Meanwhile, the bag I use everyday had gotten increasingly tattered, so finally I took out the time to sew this one up.  I don't know why I hesitated for so long.  It really doesn't take that long to do it.  And I'm very happy with it, even though those colors are not very spring/summer-like.

All caught up with Snowflower Calendar SAL just about in time for the next installment. This June bear just stole my heart.  I first thought the color was too dark and I tried something lighter.  It was too faint and I ripped it out.  So I went with the 839 on the pattern and I'm much happier.  I made the bee hive a little gold-ier,  the apricots a little orange-ier and the bees a little brighter yellow.  Just look at that sweet smile!

Also finished the 4-5-6 block for Ele's SAL.  Only one more block to go and I will have the dubious pleasure of sewing up the cubes.  I wonder how long it will take me to feel like doing that!

Oh my, Annie, this is such a gorgeous new bag. The design you used for it is one that caught my attention immediately when it came out because of that lovely bird. Great idea to use it for the bag.
I love that little bear very much, he is my favorite of all the animals that Maja designed for the SAL.

What a fabulous looking sling bag you created! Did you come up with your own bag design or use a ready made pattern. Congratulations on getting your SAL pieces finished! That bear is adorable.

Oh your new bag is great Annie. Do you feel bad when they get old and worn? Love the June SAL. :)

Lovely bag and lovely stitching!! :) I agree finishing doesn't actually take time, it is always the starting trouble and leaving the comfort zone of stitching. Looking forward to see your next finish.

Your bag is fantastic! Who cares if the colors aren't spring/summer? It's gorgeous! And your June block is wonderful as well -- I do love that bear too. And the number block is nice too!

Love your finishes!

I, too, seem to be a stitcher and not a finisher. :)

Great idea to use the stitching for a sling bag.
Your stitching for the SALs is lovely too.

Autumn colors, a bird, houses and even a bunny, what else could I wish for?! Perhaps a cat... Haha... this isn't a cat in the lower middle right!?
Beautiful finish! I'm in the same boat with you. I often wonder why I hesitate so long to sew things up although most times it doesn't take all that long.
I like the bear too. Wasn't a great fan of the bunny and cats (although I love cats... and bunnies)

I was up visiting my mom so I'm just getting around to catching up on my favorite blogs, Annie... Sounds like you got a new bag sewn up just in time! And what a beauty it is... That is a very pretty design with the giant colorful bird--not sure I've seen it before.

And the little bear with his hive of bees is adorable. She is coming up with such cute ideas for her SAL this year.

I'm sure your sewn up cubes will turn out great, Annie--I would be nervous, too, as I've never done anything like that...

Hope you're having a great week!
